Learning at Sri Adwayananda Public School: Academics and more..

As education experts such as Howard Gardner have pointed out, one size does not
fit all. Human beings approach and grasp learning in different ways, some primarily through
hearing, some through visual recording, others kinaesthetically or through logic and spatial
awareness, or often through a combination of these.

At Sri Adwayananda Public School, we offer a platform and platter of various
activities and workshops beyond the regular academics, so as to let students explore and
understand their passions, while teachers tailor the content to be delivered in the best
suitable way for the children to master the skills and content necessary for a world-class
education.

The school focusses on allowing students to present, research, read or write and
sometimes all, over and above the regular academic syllabi. Shakespeare plays, for
instance, sometimes are better understood if students present this as a drama themselves,
and the school has staged this in the past as well.

The focus for us, at Sri Adwayananda Public School, is to permit maximum exploration of subjects
fostering an inter-disciplinary approach, where subjects are presented not only as classes
but also as activities that students can take up and present, to better understand!
An example of this is the annual ‘Expo’ where students select and work on a project to present to parents,
visitors and theentire school.

This is not limited to only projects of one domain but is a platform where
students can select anything they are interested in and present it to the parents; subjects
and topics may vary from science and math to art and crafts to history and geography or
even drama and culture! Students are encouraged to make connections from their learnings
in class to what they present and work on here!

This methodology of introducing students to activities beyond classroom, while the
latter also holds strong, is something spread throughout both campuses from Kindergarten
through Higher secondary schooling.

Another instance of interdisciplinary, project-based classes is the Big History class,
offered during the 8th standard year, which allows high school students to balance book
learning with project work. For example, when studying the anthropology-based unit on the
origin of man, the Big History students build hunter-gatherer huts from scratch, sourcing
materials found on the school compound.

Such group projects reward different learning styles, as the child who is adept in mathematics may measure the hunter-gatherer hut, while
the logical thinkers find ways to start a campfire.

At all levels of Sri Adwayananda Public School, children are supported in developing
their own approaches to learning. One size does not fit all, but in this School each learner
can develop his own individual strengths and find his/her areas of passion and expertise to
pursue lifelong, where they tailor and find the size best for them!
